In the age of new music and black-hole of who's who in the hip-hop arena there is some good news. The ajc.com entertainment reviewer gave a review of one of our favorite artist "Big Vel". In their review they talked about the diversity in music on the cd and how refreshing it was to hear a little more than just trapping. They also commented on the fact that Vel's history should serve as a lesson to new artist looking to work with more established artist. One writer stated "The song THE 9 ft. Chuck D, is a great combination of street, political outlook and hip-hop fused together". In today's music business it seems that everyone has to follow a set pattern for success. One person who couldn't disagree with that more is Big Vel, southern rap artist, business man and scholar. Combining his talents of music, marketing and academia, he has put together one of the industries most impressive portfolio's. A former artist and song writer for Chuck D's slamjamz records, Vel has shown that business know how is a skill not an item of luck. "I believe everybody has the opportunity to create the environment they want to exist and become successful". Big Vel has been apart of the hiphop community in Atlanta for over 8 years learning and honing his craft. "Musically, I try to express myself without wanting to please a certain audience. I feel once a connection is made between artist and fan base, they'll decide what songs to like, you just continue to share your honest feelings with them through the music". Being one of the few rap artist willing to tell the world that he actually went to college and grad school, Vel is now embodying his academic achievements with his music in his most recent release entitled PSYCOOLOGY. What is PSYCOOLOGY you ask? In his own words here's how Big Vel explains it. "Since I hold a masters degree in psychology it was easy for think on a cognitive level. I feel we all have a thought process about how we conduct ourselves and mine is PSYCOOLOGY- the ability to make your actions reality in the way that only you can define the success of those actions. I don't wait for people to give me the go ahead on doing something or tell me it has to be done a certain way. I research it and do it myself through a series of trail and error experiences. The music business is so funny right now, you have to literally know somebody in the industry to speak with a record label. And to be quite honest I'm not so convinced that record labels have your best interest at heart, so therefore I became my own label and fund my own projects".
