Hip-Hop meets Classical (Vintage 2010 footage)
“Hip-Hop meets Classical” with SMKA, Aleon Craft & The Atlanta
Symphony Orchestra aired on CNN @ 12:45pm February, 12th 2010.
This is a special collaboration between Hip-Hop and Classical music that is the first of its kind. According to the governing symphony organization, this is the first collaboration of its kind. The collaboration was a result of ASO’s Concerts for Young People, a series of programs that focus on integrating the arts into school curriculum with concerts performed by full orchestra. The ASO commissioned Atlanta-based SMKA Productions to create a song that sampled classical music. The piece was performed for a full audience by the ASO and Aleon Craft at the Atlanta Symphony Hall 18 times between October-Febuary 2010.

D'Angelo teams up with Questlove....HOT!
MANCHESTER, Tennessee — Questlove always has a few tricks up
his sleeve, and the Roots drummer saved his one of his biggest stunts in
recent history for Saturday night's "Superjam" session at the Bonnaroo
Music and Arts Festival. Just a couple hours after the Roots finished
their own set on the festival's main stage, D'Angelo joined Questlove
for his first U.S. performance in over a decade.
The Superjam session (billed as "?uestlove with very special guests") didn't kick off until well after midnight at "This Tent," and Quest wasn't on the stage for long before he proudly introduced the legendary R&B singer to the crowd, telling them, "I've been waiting 12 years to say this: Ladies and gentleman, D'Angelo!"
After warming up with a few recent shows in Europe, D'Angelo finally made his way to a stage in the states. With the support of a nine-piece band and musical veterans like Roots collaborator James Poyser, D'Angelo joined Quest for over an hour, opening with Jimi Hendrix's "Have You Ever Been (to Electric Ladyland)" and hitting songs like the Beatles' 'She Came in Through the Bathroom Window" and Led Zeppelin's "What is and What Should Never Be."
Rumors of an appearance from D'Angelo had been circulating through the music tents in Manchester, Tennessee all day, and when MTV News caught up with Questlove a few hours before the surprise set, he explained, without naming names, what his vision for the night was.
'What I wanted to do was recreate the magic of the songwriting process at the time when I was taking residency in Electric Lady Studios," he explained, referencing Jimi Hendrix's studio facility built in New York's West Village in 1970. "I made that my central location from 1996 'til about 2004, and during that time that's where D'Angelo's Voodoo album as created, Mos Def's Black on Both Sides was created, and even some of Phrenology and The Tipping Point was created," he said. "That was really the central location for our soul querying catalog, so what I've done [for the Superjam] is gathered a cast of characters to show what a night in that period was like."
And what exactly what a typical night in Electric Lady Studios like? "Around 3 a.m., we would sit around bored and decide what album to re-do," he reminisced. "So let's say Prince's Under the Cherry Moon album — we would get in the studio and karaoke-style do the album from start to finish. But if at any point we started playing something that sounded good, we kept playing the groove over it, then all the music would go away, the drums would still go ... and it slowly morphed into another song. That was our songwriting process. So tonight, eight musicians of historical significance will be on stage and when we're in that circle, it's just gonna be the eight of us. I'm not even gonna look at the thousands of people watching."
The thousands of people who were watching had a hard time believing that D'Angelo was really jamming at the late-night set, and it's safe to say that not one of them was "bored" as Questlove joked they might be. The next time fans will be able to catch D'Angelo live is at the upcoming Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, where he'll likely treat crowds to his own classics.

YING YANG Twin DUI
Ying Yang Twins' D-Roc Arrested For DUI, Child Endangerment
Rapper was arrested in Georgia after a traffic stop; his two children were asleep in the backseat.
By Rob Markman (@RobMarkman)
On June 1, D-Roc (born Deongelo Holmes) was arrested in Georgia after Gwinnett County police stopped the rapper for failing to drive in a single lane. According to a police report obtained by MTV News after the stop, D-Roc admitted to having "a few beers at a friend's house" and smoking marijuana earlier in the evening. He was driving with his children (a 3-year old and a 2-month-old), who were asleep in the back seat of his 2002 GMC Yukon Denali.
The arresting officer found two alprazolam pills on D-Roc's person, and upon searching the vehicle, the officer also found two grams of marijuana in a grinder.
During their height, the Ying Yang Twins experienced success with high-charting Billboard singles like 2000's "Whistle While You Twurk" and 2005's "Wait (The Whisper Song)." In 2003, they dropped their hit "Salt Shaker" and also guested on Lil Jon's #1 Rap single "Get Low." The duo earned two platinum albums with 2003's Me & My Brother and then again two years later with U.S.A. (United States of Atlanta). The Twins dropped Ying Yang Forever in 2009, but the double disc CD failed to match their previous success.
Last month, the group took it upon themselves to remix Justin Bieber's hit single "Boyfriend."

RIP Lil Phat
Sandy Springs police said Friday they are searching for two suspects in the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man outside Northside Hospital.
Channel 2 Action NewsThe shooting happened about 6:40 p.m. in the 1001 block of Johnson Ferry Road.
Police identified the victim as Melvin Vernell III, also known as rapper "Lil Phat," of Corbin Lake Court in Sandy Springs. A motive for the Thursday night shooting was not known.
Police spokesman Capt. Steve Rose said Friday morning that police are searching for two males "seen running from the location at the time of the shooting."
Witnesses described one as short and wearing a red shirt, and the other as tall and dressed in all black, Rose said.
The incident happened about 6:40 p.m. in the 1001 block of Johnson Ferry Road, Sandy Springs police said. A man was found shot multiple times in a car parked on the second level of a parking deck off Hollis Cobb Drive next to the Northside Hospital Women’s Center.
The victim was taken to Northside Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. Police declined Friday to say why Vernell was in the hospital parking deck,
Witnesses indicated to investigators that they saw at least one suspect running from the parking deck toward Johnson Ferry Road. Police said Thursday night they knew of no connection between the shooting and the hospital or its Women’s Center.
The parking deck has video surveillance cameras but it was not known if they captured any useful images.
One of the visitors caught up in the lockdown was state Sen. Charlie Bethel (R-Dalton).
“We arrived around 6:30 to visit my brother and sister-in-law – my wife’s family had baby today at Northside Women’s Center – and as we arrived, there was a disturbance in the parking lot,” Bethel told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in a phone interview.
“As we entered the hospital, we were escorted to an empty patient room with other visitors,” he said. “Another family said that as they were beginning to leave, they heard shots and were hurried back into the hospital.”
Hospital officials, Bethel said, “just asked us to go, close the doors and stay away from the windows.”
The visitors were let out of the room about 8:30 p.m., he said.
Rob Markman, a Senior Hip-Hop Writer at MTV News, said Vernell was best known for his contributions to a popular song by fellow Trill Entertainment rappers Webbie and Lil’ Boosie in 2008.
The song, “Independent,” peaked in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 at the time, and was twice the No. 1 rap single in the country the same year.
“The song was a big deal, and he was a part of it,” Markman said.

B. Dolan Leaks "King Bee"
“King Bee” finds Dolan & Buddy Peace jacking for beats and making a certified rap banger out of the blues standard of the same name. In no mood to pull punches, Dolan tees off with a brash reminder of his hard-earned credibility: “I invented Ugly,” he declares, and proceeds to bare his teeth at more than a few of his rap peers. Mr. Dolan is sounding more seasoned and antagonistic than ever on this one, and doesn’t hesitate to throw shade at a field of peers who would rather “stay home and hope to go viral” than dedicate themselves to the craft and hustle to be King.
Buddy Peace punctuates the song with a jaw-dropping scratch sequence, right before the drag Queen (and Dolan’s Church of Love & Ruin partner) Ms. Nicholle Pride comes through to address Drake with a cameo of legendary, Prince Paul-esque proportions.

Stacy Francis: Whitney Houston Argument A Misunderstanding
She explained to Sister 2 Sister:
It’s something I don’t need to really discuss anymore. I don’t want to stir up her fans; we need to let her rest….I am an old family friend of Ray J and have known him for 15 years. Ray J came in and hugged me and it became a misunderstanding…Ray J and I have spoken and I wanted to make sure he was OK…He’s a very strong man, a good guy and his relationship with God has gotten stronger since….I have this gift that I really want to share with this world…No one will really understand what happened and I just hope that I don’t have to talk about it the rest of my career. Whitney told me God is a God of second chances.”

Song review by Madison Sky (KIMBRA Warrior)
Kimbra’s new album VOWS
The tracks are very upbeat and soulful
at the same time. One of my personal favorites is Warrior ft. Mark Foster and Dj A-Track. Its just inspirational the beat is very great and the song is a great addition to an already
powerful album. The beginning of the song sounds a little retro almost reminiscent
to the 1980’s Janet Jackson song Control.
Listen to that track very closely and you can hear the comparison. It’s a great
song so go out and listen to Kimbra’s album Vows
download it on iTunes or buy it in the stores. But definitely go and get this
as soon as possible!

Mogwai
It’s been 15 years since this Scottish outfit released “Mogwai Young Team,” one of those albums that inspires rabid devotion among the faithful while remaining largely unknown in the mainstream. It’s an instrumental tour de force that roars like a beast one moment and coos with soft melodicism the next. That album was reissued in 2008 in a remastered two-disc version, but Mogwai’s latest is 2011’s “Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will.” It’s the group’s seventh album, and though the band may never enjoy the kind of stellar reviews inspired by that debut album, Mogwai still inspires devotion. Rob Sheffield’s review of the album in Spin magazine concludes with these words: “still inventive, still challenging themselves and still insanely loud.”

Neil Diamond: A musical institution at work
12:12 am June 7, 2012, by Melissa Ruggieri
But as he’s aged – and at 71, he still cuts a striking figure, especially in his black and red sparkly shirt – the performance quirks that years ago made you wish he’d go to Vegas for career death (since that’s what used to happen in Vegas) now make hope you he goes there for a triumphant residency at Caesars Palace.
The Diamond of today can still milk a lyric like few others, whether growling through the tribal-by-way-of-Brooklyn “Soolaimon” or caressing the Dewar’s-smooth “Love on the Rocks.” But the jaunty clap-along tunes – “Forever in Blue Jeans,” “Cherry, Cherry” – were delivered with a creased grin, while the introspective moments, such as 2005’s “Hell Yeah,” clearly came from a place of knowing wisdom.

Erykah Badu says "Kiss my glittery A**"
The Flaming Lips and Erykah Badu video for their cover of Roberta Flack's "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" shocked some fans with its explicit nude images and strange imagery. Badu initially seemed to embrace the clip, but has now released a scathing note aimed at Lips' frontman Wayne Coyne for releasing the video without letting her see the final edit.
"You showed me a concept of beautiful tasteful imagery (by way of vid text messages). I trusted that. I was mistaken," she wrote. "Then u release an unedited, unapproved version within the next few days. That all spells 1 thing, Self Serving. When asked what the concept meant after u explained it, u replied, 'It doesn't mean anything, I just want to make a great video that everyone is going to watch.' I understood, because as an artist we all desire that. But we don't all do it at another artist's expense...you begged me to sit in a tub of that other sh*t and I said naw. I refused to sit in any liquid that was not water. But out of RESPECT for you and the artist you 'appear' to be, I didn't wanna kill your concept...sooo, I invited Nayrok, my lil sis and artist, who is much more liberal [than I], to be subject of those other disturbing (to me) scenes. I told u from jump that I believed your concept to be disturbing. But [I] would give your edit a chance. You then said u would take my shots (in clear water/ fully covered parts -seemed harmless enough) and Nayrok's part (which I was not present for but saw the photos and a sample scene of cornstarch dripping ) and edit them together along with cosmic, green screen images ( which no one saw) then would show me the edit. Instead, u disrespected me by releasing pics and rough vid on the internet without my approval. (Contract breech) That is equivalent to putting out a security camera's images of me changing in the fitting room."
"As a human I am disgusted with your what appears to be desperation and poor execution. And disregard for others," she continued. "As a director I am unimpressed. As a sociologist I understand your type. As your fellow artist I am uninspired. As a woman I feel violated and underestimated...you can KISS MY Glittery A**. O and Nayrok told me to tell u to kiss her a** too."
Lil Kim and Rocsi go at it!!
Lil Kim And Rocsi Butt Heads on “106 & Park”
Looks like “106 & Park” co-host Rocsi Diaz is feeling the sting from the Queen Bee herself, Lil Kim. Kim was on the show to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Christopher “Biggie” Wallace, as well as promote her upcoming album, when things quickly soured. Rocsi asked about the “elephant in the room” (referring to Kim’s ongoing feud with Nicki Minaj) and Kim quickly set her straight by replying ” “No, why? We here, this is about Team Kim and everybody in here. Brooklyn in the building!”
Rocsi couldn’t seem to let things go. Watch exchange below:
Pink Goo in the Chicken Nuggets!!!
Chicken Nuggets: Made From Pink Goo
Wrong. Apparently, this is what chicken nuggets look like before they’re cooked. The chicken is mechanically separated and de-boned, then the remaining meat is ground-down into this unappetizing paste. According to Michael Kindt, the goop is then disinfected, re-flavored and bleached back to the whitish color we all associate with cooked chicken breast. And of course, shaped along the way.
While I’m not sure what background Kindt has in food science, the image alone is compelling enough.
According to McDonald’s, a four-piece serving of McNuggets contains 190 calories, 100 of which come from trans fat. They also contain 400 milligrams of sodium, and along with modified food starch, dextrose and citric acid. However, there’s no reason to target McDonald’s, this image could be from any of a number of nugget producers. Jamie Oliver once whipped up a batch of nugget-goo for a class of elementary school children on his show. He was quite dismayed that the American children were willing to eat the nuggets even after seeing how they were made, whereas British children in the same situation were sufficiently disgusted to decline a taste-test.
We hope this image will give you another reason to skip the fast-food drive-through and prepare some healthier fare at home.
Chris Rock Roasts Chris Brown
Chris Rock Roasts Chris Brown On “Today Show” [VIDEO]
When introducing guest Chris Rock on the show, Matt Lauer made an off hand comment about how beautiful the weather was and hoped that the weather stayed like this when Brown hit the stage tomorrow. Chris Rock took the opening and ran with it. Rock began roasting the singer about his domestic violence charges and things of that nature. We all know how Chris Rock is when he is going in on something, so needless to say, Brown won’t be too pleased. Hopefully, he doesn’t pull a Nicki Minaj and not perform because his feelings got hurt. You know artists are extra sensitive these days.
