"PSYCOOLOGY" Rave reviews!

In the age of new music and black-hole of who's who in the hip-hop arena there is some good news. The ajc.com entertainment reviewer gave a review of one of our favorite artist "Big Vel". In their review they talked about the diversity in music on the cd and how refreshing it was to hear a little more than just trapping. They also commented on the fact that Vel's history should serve as a lesson to new artist looking to work with more established artist. One writer stated "The song THE 9 ft. Chuck D, is a great combination of street, political outlook and hip-hop fused together". The production on this album is by far great and shows that not everybody needs household names to make good music (Production by AC Da Great, Backdraft Beats and Young Snap of the Gameplayerz). Congrats again to Big Vel and continue much success. PSYCOOLOGY avail on ITUNES...

John Wayne

The PSYCOOLOGY of "My Way" Business

In today's music business it seems that everyone has to follow a set pattern for success. One person who couldn't disagree with that more is Big Vel, southern rap artist, business man and scholar. Combining his talents of music, marketing and academia, he has put together one of the industries most impressive portfolio's. A former artist and song writer for Chuck D's slamjamz records, Vel has shown that business know how is a skill not an item of luck. "I believe everybody has the opportunity to create the environment they want to exist and become successful". Big Vel has been apart of the hiphop community in Atlanta for over 8 years learning and honing his craft. "Musically, I try to express myself  without wanting to please a certain audience. I feel once a connection is made between artist and fan base, they'll decide what songs to like, you just continue to share your honest feelings with them through the music". Being one of the few rap artist willing to tell the world that he actually went to college and grad school, Vel is now embodying his academic achievements with his music in his most recent release entitled PSYCOOLOGY. What is PSYCOOLOGY you ask? In his own words here's how Big Vel explains it. "Since I hold a masters degree in psychology it was easy for think on a cognitive level. I feel we all have a thought process about how we conduct ourselves and mine is PSYCOOLOGY- the ability to make your actions reality in the way that only you can define the success of those actions. I don't wait for people to give me the go ahead on doing something or tell me it has to be done a certain way. I research it and do it myself through a series of trail and error experiences. The music business is so funny right now, you have to literally know somebody in the industry to speak with a record label. And to be quite honest I'm not so convinced that record labels have your best interest at heart, so therefore I became my own label and fund my own projects". For more information on Big Vel and his upcoming projects you can go to reverbnation.com/bigvel or andrystreetmusic.blogspot.com. And of course to make sure he's official you can always Google Big Vel and be as impressed as I was to see how much work he has been involved with over the years. Congrats and we'll be looking for more music and information, signing out I am Daniel Blaze for Music Mergers...

"Mardi Gras" HOT 8 BRASS BAND - Sexual Healing - Live!

Welcome to the beautiful city of New Orleans, La. Where the best food is cooked, the best musicians are birthed and the strongest people reside. As we close the curtain on another year of Mardi Gras let us say thank you for all the wonderful experiences provided by such a loving place. There is nothing like the music that comes from the mighty "N.O." with a healthy list of musicians that call the city home, I would like to introduce to some a brass band called the HOT 8. This group of young men has covered some of the greatest hits our time, changing certain aspects of each song to put their signature New Orleans flavor to it. Please join me in closing out this Mardi Gras week by listening to some good ol hometown music. Peace and until next time, remember no matter what the circumstance. You must "Create the environment you want to exist".

Music Mergers: Social Psychology and the RADIO

Music Mergers: Social Psychology and the RADIO: "We don't always think about how often we hear a song on the radio. Nor do we often think about like or dislike when it comes to the radio. ..."

Social Psychology and the RADIO

We don't always think about how often we hear a song on the radio. Nor do we often think about like or dislike when it comes to the radio. Besides, let's face it the radio doesn't exactly give you a "choice" of what you'll be hearing. As you know, some of us all to well, that one person selects the music and the order of the entire 24 hour day of music played. If you would just stop and think about how that effects your life, maybe then you/we would take a more demanding approach to what we hear. The way radio is setup even among competing stations, they play the same music whether consumers like it or not. Record labels have a vested interest in which songs are played and have the biggest impact on consumer purchasing options.

Your probably wondering what does any of this rant on music and radio have to do with social psychology. Well I'm glad you asked because it has a lot to do with social influence and our unconscious ability to conform without putting up a fight. Let's think about it for a minute, if you hear a song on the radio but genuinely dislike and continue to listen to that station or just that song whenever it is played. Chances are you'll grow to have a higher level of tolerance for the same song, also adding your own personal touch now and then (mainly when stuck in traffic) singing the chorus.

I'm a big supporter of new, bright and different artist so it concerns me when my favorites don't get radio play. Yeah sure in this day of the Internet artist stand a better chance of promoting and starting a buzz from various outlets. But until we're able to bridge the gap between consumer demand for new music and record label mandates, we're going to be in a heap of redundancy in terms of radio. Thus creating a culture of socially conformed individuals not sure of what type of music we really enjoy.
